Covenant
We Covenant Together
When we choose to work together in this work of spiritual direction, we come looking for the work of Spirit. We come looking to make and find meaning and to find the best ways we can to align heart with journey. These are agreements that can support what we are doing together.
As a Spiritual Director I support and adhere to the ethical guidelines established by the Spiritual Directors International organization of which I am member.
We, the Spiritual Director and the Seeker, expect that:
We hold regular meetings as agreed upon, usually once a month.
We come to these sessions holding each other with respect in our hearts.
As the Spiritual companion, I, Robert, and each seeker covenant to:
We will arrive via zoom or designated location on time.
We will communicate in a timely manner about anything that is interfering with our established appointment or needed for future appointments.
We will be present with our hearts and minds to what arises in the session as well as to things that may not yet be spoken.
We will be open to the move of spirit in each session in, around and through our sacred conversation.
As the spiritual companion, I will hold what is shared in a session in sacred confidentiality.
Seekers will work through the pay-from-the heart page on this website and establish their session fee and pay for the session after it has ended.
Because in the State of Georgia, where I, Robert, live and hold this practice, all adults are identified by law as mandated reporters of abuse of any kind (of children, adults, the elderly, physical, mental, emotional, and sexual). I am, therefore, bound beyond confidentiality to report such matters when I am aware of them.
In our sessions, it is never my job to direct the seeker. It is my job to witness the direction of the seeker’s story and to reflect that back to them, supporting their search and yearning for meaning.
Because of the nature of Spiritual Direction, I will not work directly with members of my family, personal friends or those with whom I have a collegial relationship. I will enthusiastically offer them referrals to other spiritual directors.
Should any member of my local Unitarian Universalist congregation wish to work with me in spiritual direction, we agree to disclose that to our current minister who knows about and supports my work in spiritual direction.
I am always interested to know about our sessions:
What is helpful to you?
What is not helpful to you?
If you could change one thing so that it would be more helpful, what would it be?
